Fall Roll 2016

A belated recap of our fall adventure.

Over our reading days, CHoosE loaded up into a few cars and headed for our biggest trip yet. We stayed with Melanie Turner’s wonderful family in Darien, Connecticut. (Shoutout to Mr. & Mrs. Turner for their generous hospitality!)

Here’s a run down of the trip:

Sunday morning, we sang for Norton Presbyterian Church. With a night of awesome rehearsal under our belts, we debuted some of this semester’s new songs for the congregation! We also enjoyed conversations (and donut holes) between services.

After church, we took a train from Darien into the big apple. For many of us, it was our first time in New York City!

We had so much fun seeing the sights (M&M world i’m lookin @ you), filming for our concert video, and just hanging out. We did two street performances, one in Times Square and one in Central Park.

That night, we took the subway to Columbia University, where we met up with two Christian a cappella groups in the city. Columbia’s Jubilation hosted us, and NYU’s SHINE joined for a night of corporate worship, sharing of our music, and talking about the Christian a cappella experience at our respective schools.

Monday morning we headed to Darien’s food pantry and homeless shelter, Open Doors Shelter. We got a tour of their facility, sang for the lunch crowd, and prayed for some awesome folks.

Then we headed to Waveny Care Center, (Melanie’s old place of work!) to sing for the dementia unit and chat with the residents. img_3970

Last but not least, we got the chance to sing for the Darien Young Life Club. We had a blast meeting and singing for the high schoolers in the community.

After all of those gigs we were ready for our concert, and so happy to have spent a long weekend together. Thanks again to all who hosted us, fed us, and prayed for our trip. Thanks to our God who makes all things possible and who blessed us faithfully through our travels!

As it says in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden“. We pray for the Kingdom of God to shine brightly in our own city as well as those we visited, and across all the world. We pray that the light of Christ would not be hidden in us; that we would be a city set on a hill.

Here’s to a great fall roll!
